If the office becomes unavailable, a working node can be placed at another suitable location. Moving a mini PC, however, is not a continuity plan. The site needs power, connectivity, physical protection, access to source systems and someone able to service equipment locally.

Separate office failure from station failure

An off-site station may continue operating when the office is unavailable. A failed station instead requires recovery onto compatible equipment. These are different scenarios. A single box remains a computing failure point even in a well-chosen location.

List the functions that must survive. Local knowledge retrieval may remain available while fresh records from an unavailable office CRM do not. Display data timestamps rather than implying everything remains current.

Example: mains power is lost

A UPS supports the station and networking equipment. At an agreed battery threshold, the system finishes or safely stops work and shuts down. On restart, check stored data and queued jobs. Determine whether important operations completed before repeating them.

Runtime depends on actual load and battery capacity, so test the assembled setup. Powering only the mini PC does not preserve remote access if the router switches off immediately.

Validate connectivity at the location

- Stable 4G/5G reception during working hours. - A protected connection route for staff. - Behaviour during backup-link switching, if provided. - Access to the corporate services the workflow requires.

Rehearse restoration

Restore a backup into an isolated environment. Check documents, configuration, permissions and a representative assignment. Record actual recovery time and the most recent changes that could not be restored. These measurements help an executive decide whether the arrangement meets business needs. Design a separate station and UPS around the consequences of downtime, rather than promising complete autonomy.
